Mountaineering, Palahniuk, Harry Potter and other things

I hate how little I've been blogging. I actually have a bunch of stuff to put up, but my laptop is hosed and the one I'm using doesn't have any photo editing software. A CMS blog with no picture feels lifeless, especially when it's a movie/music/book review.

So, to tithe you over, this week's Inlander includes:

The Wizard of Quid
My article on the inverse relationship of Harry Potter's popularity to his profitability [a vitally important paragraph was cut out for space constraints, which is maddening. There's also some clever editing that I don't at all endorse *sigh*].

Tackle Rainier in Three Mountains
My article for the summer adventure pullout. Learn to climb mountains like people who are paid to climb mountains.

Finally, from last week, my review of Chuck Palahniuk's new book Haunted--also the victim of space constraints.

I'm going to get a decent photochop program on this comp and we'll be back in business, swear.

Blogger's spell check contains neither the word "blogger", "blog" nor any variant thereof. Morons.

I wonder if Live Journal's spell check has "Live" or "Journal".

I hate how little I ever blog. I bet I have the most saved drafts of any would-be blogger on earth. I'm trying to set a record. Along with the mark I'm setting for the longest queue on Netflix. Speaking of that, I think I'll watch one of my flix tonight before "Without a Trace" comes on at 10:00. Gotta go!

So, are you going to publish the missing paragraphs, or do we just have to take your word for it?

And even I recognised the people quoted in your Harry Potter article... and I also know that just because you know them and talk to them regularly, that doesn't mean that they actually said the things you quoted them as saying. It's a dangerous path, my friend... maybe you should review Shattered Glass next.

Oooh, there's some venom in those words, Aleah. I'd take it personally but I know how hard it must be to live with Sheffler.

You need a place to vent, please do so here.

I have the chat transcript if you don't believe Ben and his sister said those things.

See, at The Inlander we have a far more rigorous fact-checking process than the New Republic. Those amateurs. Andrew Sullivan will not save them

What I'D like to see is an article that can explain to me why ANYONE is so wild about Harry Potter; they're perfectly cute children's stories, but why the mania?

My article ALSO attempts to explain that Omni, at least in the minds of the Kromer siblings, which, granted, can in no way be taken as a baseline for the rest of humanity

Those are direct qoutes, i believe. Luke quoted me from an IM conversation, my sister talked to him after me and i assume he quoted her the same way.

Opinions of the Kromer siblings should absolutely and in no way be considered a baseline for the rest of humanity. Yesterday, in the space of ten minutes, i bought the new Harry Potter book for both of us to read (she's on page 217 urrently) and also borrowed from Keynan the movie KIDS which i'm going to make her watch in an attempt to...i don't know...Scare Her Straight or something. i don't know. She scares the shit out of me, and i'm probably committing some sort of child abuse by having her watch that movie.
